Self cleaning halogen oven

One of the great things about halogen ovens is the fact that they are easy to clean.

Most halogen ovens have a "Clean" setting. You just put a little water and detergent into the base of the bowl and then set the timer - 10 minutes is usually enough, but you can set it for longer if you've got something baked on - and away it goes, just like the video above.

If you prefer, you can just take the bowl out and put it into the dishwasher, or even just wash it in the sink. Keeping your halogen oven clean is simple - it's just one more benefit of halogen ovens.

Fagor Halogen Oven - Steak Demo

Chef Tony Scruggs, of Fox's MasterChef, demonstrates how to cook a steak using the Fagor Halogen Oven.

It's a great demonstration of just how versatile halogen ovens are. Watch how he gets the meat perfectly cooked and with a lovely brown color. Try doing that with a microwave oven!

It's also a good way to show how, when you cook steak in a halogen oven, you don't even need to thaw it out. These ovens really are quick, easy and healthy. Not really sure what I did before I got mine!

The Amazing Halogen Oven

This short "advertorial" shows you just how you can save time, energy and money with a halogen oven - all whilst getting healthy food with no need to add fat or oil during cooking.

Halogen ovens are much more versatile than microwaves - you can cook anything in them that you would normally cook in a traditional oven. You don't even need to worry about putting foil containers in!

Most ovens are supplied with all of the halogen oven accessories you need. A couple of trays, a high and low rack, extender ring and tongs are the norm. Many ovens even come with their own little recipe book, which will be enough to get you started - although you may want to broaden your scope later.

Be sure to use the tongs to take things out once the oven is hot - I do know people who have burnt their hands or wrists by trying to lift their food out just using a dishcloth. The compact size means that there isn't much room around the side of most dishes - so use the tongs and avoid burning yourself.

It's easy, it's fast and it's healthy - and there's no reason why you can't get great results when you cook chicken in your halogen oven. Just check out the video and see how straightforward it is.

Halogen Oven Reviews 2014

As I mentioned earlier in this post, my first introduction to halogen ovens was via a late night shopping channel. I think that might be the case for many people - but don't write halogen ovens off as a stupid gimmick or a fad - that would be a big mistake.

Halogen ovens are so much more versatile than a microwave. You can cook anything in one of these - and they are faster than a conventional oven as well, getting on for microwave speed for certain dishes.

They are also very economical. Being smaller, and heating up instantly, means that they use much less energy than a standard oven - you can save up to 75% on your energy usage with one of these ovens.

As if all of that wasn't enough, they are also healthy. You need much less oil when you use a halogen oven than for almost any other type of food preparation. You can air fry food as well.

Have a look at some of the halogen oven reviews below and see what you think.

Halogen Oven Accessories

halogen oven accessories
When you buy your halogen oven it will come with everything that you need to get started with halogen cooking. Most come with a high and low rack, a couple of trays, some tongs and an extender ring for cooking larger items.

Many even include their own small recipe book - although you will probably want to treat yourself to a better recipe book before too long.

However, once you have had your halogen oven for a while, you might want to experiment a little and try cooking some different things. In that case, you might benefit from some additional accessories - baking trays, steaming trays and (my own favorite) air frying baskets.

Here's a list of some of the best halogen oven accessories available right now. See if there's anything there that takes your fancy.

Fagor 12 Quart Halogen Oven

The Fagor halogen oven is a popular choice for many home chefs. Interestingly, it comes in black or red - there's no white option, which is somewhat unusual in the world of halogen ovens. However, if black or red goes well with your kitchen's decor, then that's just fine.

As the title implies, it has a 12 quart capacity, which should be more than enough to cook a large chicken, complete with vegetables. You can increase the capacity by fitting a stainless steel extender ring (supplied).

With the extender ring in place, there's enough room to cook a pretty big turkey - say 16 or 17 pounds. However, you would struggle to get the veg in at the same time. I doubt if that would be a problem for most people - but it's worth noting anyway.

Here's some info on Fagor cookware products:
